Hydroseeding aftercare

Our care and maintenance guide gives you all the info you need for proper aftercare of your hydro-seeded lawn. You'll have the lawn of your dreams in no time at all.

Immediately after hydro-seeding

  • We use non-toxic, non-permanent dye to ensure optimal coverage density of your lawn. If there are splashes on your pavement or walkways, they will fade quickly or can be hosed off with tap water

  • Don't walk on a freshly hydro-seeded lawn, as this can leave indents in the topsoil and damage the grass seed causing irregular lawn growth. You should stay off the lawn for a minimum of 6 weeks and longer in cases of very wet weather.

  • Keep pets and children off your newly hydroseeded lawn for six weeks.

Watering your lawn is essential for growth

Your lawn needs regular watering to ensure rapid germination, strong root establishment and lush grass growth. The mulch in our hydroseed formula protects the seed and helps retain moisture levels.

Watering your newly hydroseeded lawn 2-3 times daily is essential in the first week to support germination. When germination has occurred (at approximately week two), reduce watering to morning and night.

Once your lawn is established, adjust your watering based on rainfall to keep it healthy.

Increase or decrease watering frequency according to rain and temperature conditions.

Watering Tips

  • If you imagine a scale of 1-10, 1 being bone dry and 10 saturated, you must maintain a moisture level of around 5 for seed germination and growth.

  • When watering your lawn, do not saturate it - don't allow puddles to form; a light watering of around 1cm is best. A tap timer is an excellent method of controlling watering.

  • Over-saturating the seed can cause rot.

  • Take extra care to water evenly across your lawn, reaching all areas for even growth.

  • The seed cannot be allowed to dry out - it will inhibit growth or cause the seed to die if under-watered.

  • Take care not to water in the peak of hot days - this can burn the grass seed.

Fertilise your lawn to keep it lush and healthy!

Our hydroseed blend includes a fertiliser to kick-start germination and support healthy, strong grass growth.

As part of ongoing care and maintenance of your lawn, we recommend a Nitrogen-based fertiliser every 2-3 months to keep your lawn thriving. Take care to follow the manufacturer's guidelines.

Tip - If your lawn is yellowing or discolouring, it's time to fertilise!

Mowing your lawn

Once your lawn has grown to approximately 60mm, we recommend a first cut no shorter than 40mm. Cutting your new lawn too short can damage the new grass.

Wait until the ground is firm enough to mow - mowing if the lawn is soggy will cause damage.

While your lawn is getting established, mow it lightly and often to promote root growth and keep the grass growing strong.

Only use a mulcher on your lawnmower once your lawn is well established, healthy, and you've mowed it regularly for 2-3 months.

Watch out for weeds

Keeping your lawn watered and healthy will discourage weed growth. If you find weeds popping up in the early stages of lawn growth, remove these by hand. Once your lawn is established, weeds or diseases can be controlled with the appropriate spray recommended by a lawn care professional.
